Comments: More of a road conditions report. Since I currently have a loaner vehicle with high clearance, I decided to drive the road from Sandwich to Thornton. The bottom line: you need high clearance for this road.

Fairly easy going to the Beede Falls parking area. Immediately past there is a very rough, steep section of pavement. After that, things alternate between decent dirt road, rough dirt road and rough pavement. There is another steep, rough stretch of pavement that must be ascended carefully.

Past the Algonquin trailhead, the road detiorates significantly in several spots with washouts from the flooding earlier this month. There are two tricky spots at the western end which require some careful maneuvering. Regular cars would not make it through here.

Since this is an historic road and it is intentionally left in a lesser maintained state, I wouldn't expect too many fixes. I did see some areas filled in with gravel and sand, but just enough to make the road passable.
