Trail Maintenance Notes: Trail Maintenance in the so called Wilderness Area? Lincoln Woods had mud pits and you can still trip over RR ties Black Pond Trail was nice with good foot bed Bushwhack "Trail" diverges at near the Pond but once you find the path it is easy to follow, mud pit where it meets the Lincoln Brook Trail. Lincoln Brook Trail shouldn't be called a trail anymore lots of step overs and mud pits.

Comments: Nice day in the woods with golfing gals! Straight forward nice long walk. Stashed a couple of Powerade bottles at the beginning of the Black Pond Trail on our way. Vista over Black Pond is another good reason to do the bushwhack besides saving a couple miles and getting off the RR grade. Bushwhack was obvious that I didn't need my compass (I had it out on the way up but didn't pull it out on the way back, don't go without one just in case you lose the path). Lincoln Brook Trail is a sad mess. Nearing the slide where there are a couple of mini rock cairns there are numerous mud pits and paths to campsites. Slide was mostly dry and the weather was delightful as was the view of the Franconia Range. Met a handful of people along the way and passed by three campsites with tents on the water or next to the trail. Caught up to three men with full backpacks. I asked them if they were camping on top of the mountains and suggest if they weren't maybe they should ditch their packs. First time someone said to me Hike your Own Hike, ha ha. Two of the three men ditched their packs half way up, ha ha. I am happy the golfing gals put back on their hiking boots. On way back we had all drained our water bottles by the time we got back to the LBT and it was swell to retrieve and drink up the contents of the Powerade we'd stashed. A good dunk in the river ended a super day.
