Hiking Trail Conditions Report
Peaks
Peaks Wolf Hill, Clark Summit, NH
Trails
Trails: White blazed trail
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Thursday, July 20, 2017
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: I parked in a small grassy area at a fork along the Class VI section of Wolf Hill Rd, past His Mansion Ministries and just before the powerlines. Very limited room to park or turn around. It is possible for higher clearance vehicles to drive the road under the powerlines to the sign that welcomes foot traffic but prohibits vehicles.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: No crossings.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: The trail is kind of obscure, but if you can follow the white arrows and blazed that mark it, you should be good. Follows eroded woods roads to the col between Wolf Hill and Clark Summit, then becomes a proper footpath going to either mountain.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Short hike at less than three miles roundtrip, but there was no water along the route, so on a hot and humid day, you'd have to bring water with you.
Bugs
Bugs: They were bad, but oddly not biting. They were swarming around my head, which was even more annoying IMO.

Comments
Comments: From the fork where I parked, I took the right branch of the Class VI road and followed it under some powerlines to a dirt turnaround, where there was a farm to the right and a sign dead ahead that said "Foot Traffic Only". From there, I passed the sign and followed the road, marked by white arrows, to the col between Wolf Hill and Clark Summit. The trail then branches off to both summits, and the trail to either one becomes a decently blazed footpath that is nice and easy to follow. Wolf Hill's summit is off in the woods near a communications tower, and just downslope is a good western view, complete with a trio of crosses. Backtracked to the col and made a steeper trail climb to the summit of Clark Summit (which is also the Deering town high point), which had a plaque embedded in the summit rock and great western views.

This hike does require a bit of research to find, as well as some skill to follow, but it was nice, especially the climb from the col to both Wolf Hill and Clark Summit. The latter mountain is, IMO, a hidden gem in the Hillsboro/Henniker area that seems to see very low foot traffic. Needless to say, had the place to myself. If you have any questions on access to the area, the staff at His Mansion Ministries might be able to help you out.
