I really wanted to go back to this area and today was the day - I enjoyed biking it - mountain bike recommended due to occasional mudpits at drainages. First quarter mile gains a few hundred vertical feet but after that the terrain is rolling. Glad there was a warming hut with an overhang because that's where I waited out some brief downpours!!! After that, I headed north to Trout Pond - super-picturesque!!!! I only went about 6 miles round trip.
On the way back, between the Trout Pond and the warming hut, I was riding down a hill, picking up speed, when I noticed right to the left of me, a large glossy blackish shadow - WHEW - a HUGE very healthy-looking bull moose!!!! I came within probably 5-10' of it - we were both so startled - he ran off ahead of me, looking back with, what I can only imagine, was a confused look on his face!!!!! Very cool!!!! |
