Beautiful day, bit windy, but nice. Black ice on the various slabs, but avoidable. The fire spotter, his wife and friendly dog "Rusty" were in the Belknap tower removing the radio, etc and closing up for the winter. Nice older couple. He'd just replaced a trail sign at the summit. We had an interesting conversation about fire spotting, and working at the summit. Visited the plane crash site on the way north. Road/trail from Rowe to base was very muddy at top, so we went down the powerline cut, which was dry but very slippery with the leaves. Road would have been the wiser choice. |
