Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Mud - Significant
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: At least 6 major stream crossings on the way out to No-Ketchum. All are easy under normal summer conditions, but can be challenging with higher water levels.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Trail in good shape to the junction with Eagle Link, 4.7 miles upstream from Wild River Campground. Half a mile past that junction the trail drops down alongside the stream in a section of washouts and downed trees. The trail can be confusing here. The next 2+ miles to the Perkins Notch tent sites need to be brushed out, with several very muddy stretches, but is not hard to follow.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: A good trail for dogs, especially if they like water.
Bugs
Bugs: A hot day with few bugs about.

Comments
Comments: The view of Carter Dome from the edge of No-Ketchum Pond is very impressive. However, there is no easy trail to the pond's edge. You will have to negotiate brush, tall grass, and mud or water underfoot. A fragment of path leads from the clearing of the old shelter down to the edge of the grassy brook that flows through the wide meadow called No-Ketchum. Waterproofed boots and gaiters are very helpful. Some tufts of grass may settle half a foot under water when stepped on. But view is worth it.
