| Water Crossing Notes: |
First time out to Owls Head so wanted to avoid any water crossing issues by taking the bushwack route. Two other crossings of Lincoln Brook were simple for most skill levels. |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
No new blow downs; tons of old ones to go over, under, or around. |
|
| Dog-Related Notes: |
Wouldn't recommend the final mile slide scramble for any small breed. Big dogs may be OK. |
|
| Bugs: |
Flies and mosquitoes. |

On last hike walking down from the Bonds I noticed many folks grabbing bikes they had stashed in the woods at end of Lincoln Woods Trail. I looked on in envy as they cruised back and I trudged along for another 2.5 miles. Well today I brought my mountain bike and it was great! Locked it to a tree near Black Pond Trailhead. Riding for 5 round trip miles really makes this an easy day hike. The bushwack beyond the Pond was mostly easy to follow. A few places had multiple paths but they all seemed to lead to same direction. I found this route on AllTrails.com and with my phone gps was able to ensure I was near the right path. Just a little clean up and this bushwack would be a real trail! I recommend this route if you want to shave some distance or avoid the water crossings (though I have no idea how bad the crossings actually are right now). |
