Hiking Trail Conditions Report
Peaks
Peaks Mt. Carrigain, NH
Trails
Trails: Signal Ridge Trail, Carrigain Notch Trail, Desolation Trail
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Tuesday, August 29, 2017
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Only a few vehicles in the two-miles-in Sawyer River Road trailhead on a hazy, cool Tuesday.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Two short and easy rock-hops.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Trails in good shape. Desolation Trail, eschewing switch-backs as it shoots straight up a ridge, is inherently rough. Upper Signal Ridge Trail seemed rockier and more eroded than I recalled from last hike about 5 years ago, but perhaps I was just tired by then.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes:
Bugs
Bugs: No flying insects, biting or other. Perhaps too cool for them.
Lost and Found

Comments
Comments: I added nearly a mile by relying on the outmoded Signal Ridge Trail description in the AMC 29th Ed., from which it seemed clear that I had somehow missed the Carrigain Notch Trail junction, which in fact I hadn't reached. I found the update on the AMC website afterwards.
