| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
The Lincoln Woods lot was full at 7;15AM so I parked alongside of the Kancamagus Highway. When I returned the vehicles extended as far as I could see heading toward Lincoln. |

| Surface Conditions: |
Dry Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable |
|
| Recommended Equipment: |

|
| Water Crossing Notes: |
Water crossing were easy rock hops. Water levels low today. |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Trails in good condition. The unmaintained Owl's Head Path had the usual tree falls across the path but none posed any problems. The Black Pond herd path was generally free of tree falls. |
|
| Dog-Related Notes: |
Saw some dogs today. Your dog will need to be comfortable going up a steep slide with loose rocks. |
|
| Bugs: |
Some biting mosquitoes on the Black Pond Trail near the wetlands. |

| Comments: |
Even though I heard the Franconia Brook and Lincoln Brook water levels were low I opted to take the Black Pond herd path from Black Pond to the Lincoln Brook Trail. This unofficial path is somewhat indistinct at the south end near Black Pond and requires care to follow. However, most of the length of this path is easy to follow. The path was mainly dry as it stayed above the lowland by the river. There were short muddy spots near the two ends of the trail. This path may not be so obvious after the leaves fall.
The slide was dry today so the climb up Owl's head wasn't too bad. Expect some loose rocks. The slide would be more difficult if wet and dangerous if icy. There were cairns on both sides of the Lincoln Brook Trail to mark the point to turn on to the Owl's Head Path. |
