Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Sunday, October 8, 2017
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: I parked in the turnaround at the end of Frohock Brook Rd. in Alton. Room for a few cars, just don't block any driveways or take up too much of the turnaround.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Wet Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: No crossings.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: The footway was faint in many spots, most likely due to lack of use. Many of the blue blazes are faint, so some care must be taken to follow this trail. No issues with the woods road walk.

Comments
Comments: From the turnaround on Frohock Brook Rd, I walked the woods road continuation for a few minutes, passing by some snowmobile trail junctions/signs, to the start of the blue blazed trail leading to the summit. It can be a little hard to spot, so just look for a faded blue blazed and small cairn not far past the junctions. From there, the trail was pretty straightforward to the top (with care), although the ledges near the top were quite slippery. Great views from the ledge outcrop near the summit, but the actual summit, although open, doesn't have much for views, but there is an abundance of blueberry bushes.

This, as well as nearby Pine Mountain, would make a nice, shorter, and less crowded alternative to Mt. Major.
