| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Plenty of parking on Sandwich Notch Road's Guinea Pond Trailhead lot near the power lines - only a couple other cars there. Sandwich Notch Road was not as bad as I was expecting - still - people drive REALLY fast - kind of scary when you get to those sections that are one-car-width!!!! |
|
| Surface Conditions: |
Dry Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Leaves - Significant/Slippery |
|
| Recommended Equipment: |

|
| Water Crossing Notes: |
all were rock-hoppable but generally slippery |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Guinea Pond Trail (south end, below Mead Trail jct) has a relatively new trail relocation due to beaver activity - made biking very difficult near the power lines - very brushy. Black Mountain Pond Trail had several new (within the last couple months) HUGE blowdowns with developing herd paths below Black Mountain Pond. Algonquin Trail along the ridge was VERY brushy. Guinea Pond Trail between Flat Mountain Pond Trail and Guinea Pond - huge beaver pond - northern end of re-route is completely submerged - went back to look for flagging or arrows but didn't find any - because this end is now submerged since the re-route - I bushwhacked and eventually joined the old re-route - I almost forgot which side of the trail the re-route is on - it's on the north side of the trail. Guinea Pond Spur Trail still missing sign - BUT, route is evident once you realize the signpost is where the sign should be - water was low enough to log-hop through the bog on the way to the pond. |

| Comments: |
Terrific day - took a while for clouds to burn off, so, I didn't have great views once way above Black Mountain Pond. I rode my mountain bike in to the intersection with Black Mountain Pond Trail and did the loop from there. Parts of Black Mtn Pond Trail are still a bit sketchy and scary/rocky/deep scrambles - I am always happy to ascend that rather than descend. Bennett Street Trail is one of my favorites - nice combo of old logging roads. Leaves made finding the rocks a bit tough overall but, very fun!!!! |
