Comments: Four Mile Brook Mountain (South Tucker Mountain), Loomis Valley Brook Peak and Chase Mountain

These three mountains are on the New Hampshire 300 Highest and New Hampshire 2000-footer list.

A few weeks back, we set off to hike Loomis Valley Brook Peak and Chase Mountain and were stopped short due to gated access roads. That said, we determined we would have to re-climb a mountain we had already completed to get to these peaks.

From our parking spot, we set off east to Four Mile Brook Mountain (South Tucker Mountain), turning southeast up the old radio antenna access road now more of a ATV trail. After a few hundred feet of elevation gain we turned southwest toward the summit on an older logging cut and now herd path. Once things leveled off we jumped off and hit the recognized high point and signed in. Not much of a bushwhack to this point. While at the summit we heard the lone howl of a coyote attempting to locate the rest of its pack.

We then set off bushwhacking east, turning northeast towards an old road, headed south and then turned east over a bridge. We then turned northeast towards Loomis Valley Brook Peak on an older lodging road now and at the height of land we then started bushwhacking east, turning north east in nice woods and easy grade towards the col between the summit and a bump to the southeast. Just below the col we turned north as things got a little steeper but not bad. Once leveling off the woods got a lot thicker, scrappy and loaded with blow downs to the recognized high point.

After signing in we set off to our next peak, Chase Mountain dropping southeast trying to avoid the thick and nasty stuff we just went through. Once at the first col we went west of the first bump, then east of the next bump and went around some ledge area to the recognized high point and signed in. Between summits was a mix of open woods, hobble brush, swamp, nice ledge areas and we found some moose bones along the way.

We now dropped off the summit heading northwest back towards that old road we came in on. Rather than re-climb Four Mile Brook Mountain (South Tucker Mountain) we decided to skirt around it to the north hitting some nice woods and a previously logged area back to our car.

Another great adventure with Mary, Rick and Lisa as we clocked just over 9 miles and 1900 feet of elevation gain.
