Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Howe Hill rd which provides access to the trail head still has power lines down in the road, as well as some sink hole sections. It was passable with my van. I parked next to the white house and not at the trail head parking. There is a larger blow down shortly after parking next to the white house. There is also a sink hole near a culvert that is roughly 40'' around, but is possibly passable.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Wet Trail, Standing/Running Water on Trail
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: all good. On the third crossing that has a nice water spot I usually drink from, there was a dead mouse from all of the rain, yucky.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: On the trail itself; there were a number of smaller blow downs I was able to cut with a folding saw. There are still three larger blow downs I did not take care of; each roughly a third of the way on the trail. Particularly there is a blow down standing upright in the middle of the trail roughly 1.5 miles up. The trail is also in need of raking and water bar cleaning. There is leaf build up on the same section where the upright blow down is; and an especially rough section of trail that has eroded and has running water on it approx. .75 – 1 mile in.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: do-able
Bugs
Bugs: some weird ones that kinda looked like a cross between a tick and a fly. Biting about halfway to 3/4 of the way up.

Comments
Comments: A decent day to check out storm damage on the black mountain trail. Brought the folding saw which came in useful. Trail is pretty wet but passable. Watch out for power lines on Howe Hill rd. Interesting upright blowdown on the uphill portion directly in the trail; after the second water crossing. Was warm and rainy/misty for the trip. Interesting cloudscape and partial undercast on the summit. Thanks maintainers and help out if available as lots of trails will need attention.
