Date of Hike: Sunday, November 5, 2017
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Long Pond Road is gated. A few cars can park on the road side before the gate, and more on the side of Hight St. There are a couple of long side/ditch washouts on Long Pond Rd, one a few feet deep in places. Between them there is a yellow birch across the road. I reported these to the USFS with some pictures.

Water Crossing Notes

Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: This trail doesn't appear to have been significantly affected by the storm. There were a handful of blowdowns; I removed four and turned a beach into an easy step over. There is trickling water in the trail in a couple of places, most notably on the descent to the crossing of the logging road in the lower section of the trail. As always when hiking from this direction I shoot past the spur to the summit. Backtracking I asked Pepper to find it and he did. It doesn't intersect at the largest cairn, but a small one and it curves quickly making it hard to find even when one knows it is hard to find.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: A short but fine walk for Pepper.
Bugs
Bugs: None

Comments
Comments: This was partly another post storm trail reconnaissance, and staying close enough to home to get back for some pre-winter chores. It turned out to be a good hike for the conditions, with a gusty wind and rain in the forecast. It's also a nice trail with modest grades and some interesting views. Wear orange, there are usually hunters using Long Pond Rd and side roads/paths to get to their destinations. We saw one using this trail to go off on the logging road part way in. It looked pretty challenging for anyone on Moosilauke today, it was buried in clouds and the winds must have been nasty. We ran into a couple of hikers and their dog at the trailhead and they asked if the trail was Glencliff. I steered them in the right direction to the trail, but held off advising them to try something else, like Blueberry Mtn., given the conditions and forecast. I hope all went well with them.
