Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: There is no sign where Webster Slide (and the pond bypass) intersect Wachipauka Pond/AT. The post is still there although it isn't obvious. The AT isn't well painted but Webster Slide and the path to the pond are well painted in blue. I removed or trimmed four blowdowns. This leaves a two stem fir blowdown and a large broken trunk on Webster Slide, neither being serious impediments. The broken trunk section is on the steeps and thus it might be a touch tricky to step over for some when snow/ice are present. It might be better moved by a pry bar, hand winch or group effort to avoid an extended saw/axe work. There is a three stem blowdown low on Wachipauka which is easily gotten around. There may be another blowdown on Wachipauka near Webster Slide; we came back via the pond loop and thus we would have missed it but I faintly recall seeing one going up. There are several easy step overs on Webster Slide and duckunders on Wachipauka. It looks like there was some erosion from the recent big storm in the usual place on Webster Slide; a water bar or two might be nice there. Wachipauka had a couple pools on the trail in the usual wet place due to damming of the seeps. Some of the bog bridges are broken on Wachipauka. The pond side path is a bit sketchy to follow in places unless you have a GPS (Global Positioning Schnauzer).

Comments
Comments: This was another post storm recon hike before a midday Thanksgiving meal. It is a pleasant walk through open hardwoods with some large old trees; very nice with the sun out and little wind. The view from the summit is interesting, and Wachipauka Pond is pretty. There are even a couple of chairs there to sit and admire the views. We had the trail to ourselves; no hunters or hikers. On the drive home I told Pepper thanks for a great little hike, and he got up and climbed into my lap and rested his paw on my arm. I took that as his giving thanks.
