Comments
Comments: We were the first, apparently in a while, to go up Jewell. Lower elevations had snow but no traction was needed to break trail. Higher elevations had several inches of powder and snowshoes would definitely have helped. We broke trail without them to Gulfside with another hiker following. We started to head towards Jefferson and he headed for Washington. We both turned around after a couple hundred yards deciding that breaking trail that far was not in the cards. Ont he way down we passed a single hiker who said he was scouting for a Presi traverse (he wasn't happy to hear our report from above). The winds were very light above treeline and the views were amazing with the undercast clouds. Our descent was much easier with a the the beginnings of a broken out trail to follow!
