| Comments: |
The snow cover has taken a hit this week, largely replaced after rain with serious ice and major ice flows. We were in spikes shortly after the river crossing, with one of us switching happily to Kahtoola crampons another mile up. We went up East Loop and Walden, and continued down Dicey's from the summit. Choose your challenge -- larger boulders with ice and some snow cover on Walden, versus continuous ice on Dicey's Mill. A hiker who had done the larger loop reported the same ice conditions for Whiteface and recommended crampons. |
