Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Limited parking before the gate at the end of Cook Hill Road in Campton. Logging will be starting up again soon here, and the hiking trail is closed when logging in taking place. There was no activity today. Cook Hill Road is a bit on the rough side with some ice patches and soft mud, but is passable by any vehicle with care.
Surface Conditions

Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment: Light Traction
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: None.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Several large blowdowns on this loop. As I was getting back to my car, I met a very friendly area resident who does maintenance on the trail and he was going in to tackle what he could without a chainsaw. We had a nice chat. Otherwise, no issues. The corridor is very clear and wide and is maintained that way for backcountry skiing. The trail is marked with blue flagging, less so descending from the summit.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Sure. The maintainer I met had four happy pups with him.
Bugs
Bugs: Nope.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Nothing.

Comments
Comments: A neat hike. I did the loop clockwise, starting at the upper right corner of the log landing (blue flagging). Grades are mostly easy the whole way. The trail was a mix of dry ground, crusty snow and patches of ice, which are avoidable with careful footing. I carried spikes but didn't use them. Restricted views from the summit ledge via a clearcut out to Cardigan and over next door to Stinson. The descent passes through the remnants of the Leavitt homestead, which includes lots of stone walls and some really interesting stone foundations from the former barn and house. The homestead area also offers a fantastic vista out to the Whites through the trees, mostly only visible this time of year. The loop eventually rejoins the logging road extension of Cook Hill Road, which I walked back to the car.
