| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
The 'driveway' to the Sandwich Mountain trailhead had one pass made by a plow just beyond the power station on the right. Since this is of no use (except for future plowing) I parked at the widened part of the entrance. |

I'd say on average there was mostly 6-8 inches of light, fluffy snow throughout with a couple of areas pushing a foot so snowshoes were the only option here today. Upon arrival I was a little surprised this route wasn't broken out - though there was one set of boot (?) prints going up Sandwich Mountain Trail that must have been a couple of days old. Those prints eventually petered out below the first outlook below Noon Peak so I effectively broke trail up to Jennings Peak. The consistency of the snow made for good shoeing but often I'd sink to the trail and hit rocks, roots and the like underneath so it's not quite deep enough - and made for challenges on the steep pitches. After lunch on Jennings I figured I was going to break trail down the Drakes Brook Trail but soon after descent a group of four was coming up so that ended up being a breeze. That trail now has a nice track - don't know if the group of four made an opposite loop on the Sandwich Mountain Trail. At least when I was up there the stretch from Jennings toward Sandwich Dome was unbroken.
Views were had in the morning approaching and on Noon Peak but once on Jennings Peak the skies turned grey - though very light flakes throughout made for a pleasant trek. Other than the group of four I didn't see anyone else. I did see a lone set of ski tracks on the Fletcher Cascade Trail however.
On the way home I saw a 52WAV license plate...how ironic :) |
