Bike path is being used by snowmobiles, even though it's not yet groomed. On the ascent, we bushwhacked up near the herd path; on the descent, we broke most of it out, skipping lower portions due to it being bony. About a foot of snow.
Liberty Spring Trail was broken out by snowshoes and fairly descent for them. A couple of minor mud spots poking out before the water crossings. Snow pack increased to 2 feet higher up. Good track, but in the afternoon some folks wearing sneakers were hiking up with sleds (and were almost to the camp site protection area), so who knows what it looks like now.
Up on the ridge, snowpack was 3 feet. This is where snowshoes were really needed, however half a dozen barebooters tore it up, giving the rest of us postholes for the holidays. Looks like snowshoes heading to Flume, but no tracks heading north (e.g. to Little Haystack).
Cold and windy up on the ridge, but impressive views of the Presis in White. Surprisingly minimal crowds for a 4K. |
