We traversed South to North, the trail up South Moat was well packed down and icy in a few locations. We did not use any traction on our mountaineering boots getting up to the summit of South Moat. Traversing from South Moat to North Moat we broke trail with conditions varying from bare rocks, icy rocks and snow drifts 2-3' deep. Snowshoes were necessary traversing from South to North Moat and some of the short ledges up to north moat were icy requiring the snowshoes to come off and the micro-spikes to go on. We brought crampons but felt they were unnecessary. Going down North Moat to Diana's Bath found more deep snow drifts but approximately 0.5 miles down from the summit the trail had been broken by a party that appeared to have turned around the day before. Easy walking and fast conditions from the North Moat/Attitash trail junction to Diana's Bath. |
