It was a beautiful day for a hike. The trail is easy to follow with a few fresh inches snow and crust on top from the mixed rain/snow the day and night before. I saw only two hikers in the entire day and breaking trail through the day exhausting. I had planned to make the loop with Mount Passaconaway but wanting to avoid hiking in the dark so turned around on the Rollins Trail and went back up and then down Mt Whiteface back to the car using the same trail (Blueberrry). Can use snowshoes or light traction. I opted to put use microspikes for most of the hike switching to short spiked (1") crampons at the ledges but would have been fine without them. |
