Comments
Comments: Well packed trail heading up White Arrow. Several ice bulges along the way, including extended section approaching treeline. Easy to navigate with Hillsound Trail Crampons. Open summit areas still have extensive conformal coating of ice up to 1" thick from storm over a week ago. Easily avoidable by hunting for snowy lines. Down White Cross was also well packed, just a couple tricky icy sections. Lower White dot was like walking on a sidewalk. Up Red Spot was less packed but packed enough to not warrant snowshoes. Some blowing snow and drifting on this side. Pumpelly on open ridge also had some drifting and braiding of packed route due to cues being covered by ice and snow. Final summit approach on Pumpelly was a bit tricky due to exposed rock being covered in thick black ice. Windchills were in the -30's, way better than the Whites, so there were quite a few people on Monadnock this frigid day.
