Comments
Comments: Since there has been no postings for Owl's Head since middle Dec I went to test the conditions. What I found:
Wilderness Trail - bare bootable to Osseo; soft snowshoe/ski track there to Black Pond intersection. Looked like only skiers have been past that point. My guess is the ski tracks go at least to Bondcliff trail and probably further.
Black Pond trail and 'whack - I broke this stretch out through 6 - 10" of easy powder with minimal drifts. I could follow the fine trench Jack tracked out in Dec. easily enough.
I turned around once to the Lincoln Brook trail. I'm confident that, had I started earlier, I could have got to the start of the Brutus without overtaxing myself. As you probably know above around 3,500 feet things deteriorate rapidly.
Osseo trail appears to be tracked. Of course I do not know how far.
Wear snowshoes. You are not going to get far without them.
