Comments
Comments: The trail from the parking lot to Diana's Bath was fine, hard packed snow. I wore snowshoes but you don't have to. Once you are at Diana's Bath the next half a mile on the trail is a mess with postholes, but still enough of a packed down path to make it doable with snowshoes (probably made it easier). After that initial half mile the trail is fine and snowshoes worked great. There was some post-holing along the entire length of the trail, but it wasn't a problem. Once I turned off of Attitash Trail and started up the steep trail you need either microspikes or snowshoes. There was 2-3 inches of very light new snow along the entire trail until you are within about a mile to a mile and a half of the summit and then you go to 4 to 5 inches. The ledge areas were all covered with the light snow so I couldn't see the ice on the rocks but could feel it. At the summit area I wore microspikes and they were a great help. Coming down I work microspikes for the real steep area of the trail directly below the summit and then switched back to the snowshoes because I was starting to posthole (and I was able to make much better time). Very clear and windy at the summit. I had not realized what a workout it is going the last two miles up to the summit.
