Comments
Comments: What a day! Started with ice and even some sections down to dirt on the ground in the first 0.3 mi. Lots of ice flow on the first 1/3 of the trail. The middle section was crusty breakable snow. The ridge was all beautifully packed powder as it stayed cold enough up there to prevent melting. The warm temps made the descent a little more challenging with more breaking snow, postholes and loose granular. I used microspikes the whole time with no problems. Snowshoes could have been used a few times but you would have needed to switch them out too frequently (in my opinion). Gorgeous day - blue skies, negligent wind, happy hikers!
