We planned to get all the Weekses, but encountered more snow than expected and a completely unbroken trail. It took 5 hours to route find and break out the 4ish miles to North Weeks. Blazes are fairly frequent but faded and many were located on dead or peeling trees. We used GPS to navigate the many switchbacks and managed to stay pretty closely on trail the whole way, for what it was worth. Just a few inches of powder covered the crusty layer down low, but we were breaking out 8+ inches and some drifts all the way up the summit cone, and breaking through the crust much deeper in spots. With our late start and given the conditions, it didn’t make sense to push for South Weeks, so we turned back at the summit of North Weeks and made it back to the car in less than 2 hours. |
