Comments
Comments: The trail is loosely packed down low, as we hit the trail it was only a couple inches of loose powder over hard packed monorail. As you gain elevation, especially after the outlook by the ski trail the depth of powder grew. Based on conditions down low we left the snowshoes in the car, and it was just fine without them although the televators would have been nice. On top of the ridge there was maybe 6 inches of powder but it was packed loosely from hikers earlier in the day. We took the right (yellow blazed) trail to the summit on unbroken trail, making quick work of it even in just spikes. After a break on the summit we took the blue blazed trail down to the junction of Sosman trail, where we again broke trail in six inches of powder and through some higher drifts. I highly recommend taking Sosman trail at least to the two overlooks. Overlook on the right looks out towards Kinsman Ridge and over to Cannon and the Franconia Ridge. The overlook to the left looks out to the left at the Osceolas and to the right over at Scaur Ridge an the Tripyramids. We made our way all the way down Sosman where it ends at a cell tower and turned around and made our way down. Great day to be out. Snowshoes will be necessary after tomorrows storm as 8-12" of snow is expected for much of the White Mountains.
