Mt. Clinton was packed by snowmobiles with shallow coverage otherwise. I was happy to see a monorail on Edmands as I know it gets less traffic.
Monorail was hard and a bit lumpy up to the steep little slide area where the 8 mile side hill traverse starts. From here to the ridge was tough going. Could have used snowshoes as it was much less consolidated and soft, but I think that would be very hard considering the slope and the stiff scrub trying to push you off the mountain. Lots of boilerplate on the loop from the intersection to the summit with some deep drifts. My recently sharpened spikes worked ok. Tucker was able to avoid the worst of it. Wind was wicked cold on the summit.
Nice peaceful hike, saw no one until a 1/2 mile or so back down Edmands. Then only two other groups the entire way out.
Could not believe the cars at ALL of the trail-heads. Looked like July 4th.
