Sun came out on the way to Greenleaf, conditions were around freezing but had no balling. I wore crampons and hard boots the whole way. At times it felt like over kill but there was a great deal more control than with micro spikes. Lots of groups of folks going up and down, butt sliding etc. Wind increased very quickly going above treeline. Top had little snow except the usual spots where it collects and drifts. Winds along the ridge were west/northwest and higher than the forecast 25 more like 30-50 gusting.
Saw now one after Lafayette until I came back down after Haystack. Then more of the same as well as well as people in street shoes headed up to the falls of falling waters. Please afternoon pre Khatahdin prep. |
