Lost and Found
Lost and Found: LOST - important (to us, anyway)! Alex’s blue winter hat that she has hiked with since she was five years old. We think it is near the intersection of Glencliff and Moosilauke Carriage Road. If found, please contact me by email. patriciaellisherr@hotmail.com. Will happily pay for shipping and for your trouble. This is a very sentimental item. :(

Comments
Comments: It is April in February! We left the trailhead at 5am and started up in ‘spikes only on a thin layer of snow/ice. Snow and ice was spotty in places. Ice cover increased a bit during the first half mile, then a thin layer of snow and ice for the entire first mile. Snow depth began increasing during mile two and three - we left so early that the trail was still firm. Didn’t need to switch to snowshoes until just before Moosilauke Carriage Road. At that point, snowshoes were definitely needed - we sunk in the soft snow on MCR even in snowshoes. Ice and bare rock on the summit. Since the day was only going to get warmer, we opted to stay in snowshoes for the entire way down to avoid sinking. On our way down Glencliff, we met different people, all solo (one with a great happy dog), some with snowshoes and some with ‘spikes. Non of the ‘spikes folks were postholing, but we left our snowshoes on anyway since we figured at some point during this warming day we might start sinking on Glencliff like we would have on MCR. Actually, a lot of it was that we just didn’t feel like changing out of our snowshoes since we already had them on, lol.

It was great to meet the nice fellow with the happy dog, and Sven, and Kim, all of whom said they would look for Alex’s hat. Thanks for looking, you guys! If one of you sees this and found the hat, please let me know. Thank you so much!

It was a beautiful day up top - and insanely warm all day. We kept hiking through pockets of downright hot air on our way up. It was weird. Gorgeous day up top and wonderful hike. Looking forward to having Sage rejoin us next week.

Alex will have a trip report on her blog early next week.
