Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Your high clearance vehicle may be able to get over that snow bump in front of the summer parking lot area, but I suggest parking in the winter lot (across the street off route 2) anyway. Otherwise, your car might decide to slide down and around that iced over summer parking area and rudely bump into a few trees. That’s more excitement than you need right before or after a hike. Trust me.

Comments
Comments: This was Sage’s first hike after fighting pneumonia for the past four weeks. Waumbek is a peak that is usually easy for her and she was frustrated at how quickly she ran out of steam. We took it slowly on the way up and she did fine. Took us four hours total for the round trip hike so she is stronger than she thinks she is right now - she just gets frustrated at how tired she gets. Alex and I were her cheerleaders today; she will be her normal hiking self in a couple of weeks, I suspect.

We began our hike at 5:30am and the trail was solid like a rock all the way up. Lots of amazing frozen postholes between the summits of Starr King and Waumbek, so be careful after this snowfall - the few inches we get today may lightly cover those deep postholes. Watch your step.

The storm arrived as we were descending but nothing started sticking until we were driving home. Saw four accidents between Jefferson and Lincoln.

Saw one solo hiker today who was as surprised to see us as we were to see him. He was hiking ahead of the storm like we were.

Alex will have a trip report on her blog this week.
