Comments
Comments: Solid snow under about 2 inches of heavy wet snow. Stable enough to bareboot first 2 miles. Put on snowshoes for the rest of the ascent and the new snow was helpful over the top of some icy spots. The wind began to pick up in the afternoon and we were happy to be sheltered in the trees. On the way down I had some trouble staying upright on my long snowshoes and took some unplanned butt-slides and decided that I wasn't enjoying that experience at all really and took off the snowshoes. I put on microspikes for the rest of the steeps and managed to stay on my feet when it counted. The sun had softened the snow enough to ball up in the micros so I took them off and barebooted the last mile to to the car-soft but stable snowpack.
