Comments: Half an inch of fresh snow on 19MBT from the trailhead to the intersection with Carter Dome Trail, up to an inch of fresh snow from that intersection to Wildcat Ridge Trail. Not enough new snow there for snowshoes IMO, and the trail underneath that little bit of fresh snow was well packed. The four in our group plus eight others we saw on 19 MBT all barebooted - there were two other people we saw who used snowshoes, and that was all before 9am, so by tomorrow 19MBT should be the completely packed out sidewalk/highway it usually is.

Wildcat Ridge Trail up to Wildcat A (from 19MBT) had been barebooted by three people before us that morning - and we were grateful. They left very useful steps on all the steep bits that we were happy to use on our climb. Those steps, plus the narrow footing and sideways bits of trail, made barebooting that specific section of trail the safest and easiest way to go for us this morning. The trail has no postholes, just nice and convenient steps.

Once at Wildcat A, we all switched to snowshoes for the ridge walk to Wildcat D. There was perhaps only two new inches of snow at most up there with no drifting, but it was now easier to hike with snowshoes than without since the trail up there isn’t quite consolidated under that new snow. We kept the snowshoes on from Wildcat A to Wildcat D, and then we kept them on for the ski slopes...the ski slopes weren’t all that consolidated either where we were walking so life was simply easier with the snowshoes on.

Snow is coming on Wednesday, so this report is only relevant to those who are hiking tomorrow (Tuesday).

Alex will have a TR on her blog later this week.

It was nice hiking with Gale Straub today. It was also nice to see Sage almost back to normal after her bout with pneumonia.
