though i don't recommend them above as they were not necessary i found short snowshoes useful on the ski trails.
ski trails well packed. once on the upper brook trail there was a thin layer of snow over ice to the saddle. light snow over a mix of bare ground, ice and old crusty snow heading to belknap. light traction worked well. increased ice to gunstock. still plenty of grip with light traction. i followed the ski trails from gunstock down to the range trail at the middle mountain. the minimal snow cover dwindled fairly quickly heading to rowe and became very patchy with mostly bare ledge from the col to the summit. the access road was a mix of wet/muddy ground and wet snow. i found bare boots worked fine. |
