Started out looking like the sun was going to break through. The trail had been broken and packed by a large snowshoeing family and a group of hikers that looked like a meetup or club- several others hiking/skinning, snowboarding today as well. Not much powder at lower elevations, but wish I'd switched from microspikes to crampons after mid-way and snowshoes by Carriage Rd junction. Knew I'd have to take them back off on the way down, though, and it was too inhospitable above treeline to dally. Goggles, face protection required, as it felt like gale force winds with temps well below zero plus wind chill near/at the summit and poor visibility- maybe two-to-three cairns. The kids had a blast- literally. Neat to see the white blazes at/below shoulder height. |
