Comments
Comments: Followed Davis path a short while until just beyond Wilderness sign and brook crossing . Bushwhacked through wide open hardwoods on a bearing that brought us to the ridge north of Hope at 2200'. Eventually encountered bootleg trail leading through spruce to summit of Hope. Then followed bearing south to So. Hope through essentially open woods with very few sprucy or thick spots. Should have bw a little more to the E to avoid 1 steep section. Reached both recognized summits.
With high flotation snowshoes, breaking snow depths ranged from 2" to 12+" on a hard or nonexistent base, with occasional hidden rock or ice.
Snow was not fluffy, but not sticky either. Overcast skies prevented the sun from heating up the snow
Prior to past snowstorm, S and SW facing slopes must have been bare or icy
