Attempt at the Bonds for the last winter weekend, but only made Zealand. A few groups had gotten to Zeacliff and the Zealand pond junction prior to Saturday, so the trail was mostly broken out until then, but we broke the last 1-1.5 mile of trail to Zealand. There was about 2-3 ft of new snow on the ridge and potential to fall waist-deep if you got off of the packed monorail underneath. Two of us continued on for about an hour toward Guyot but had to turn around eventually. It was cold, windy, and not an above-treeline-Bonds day anyway. The trail should be a snowshoe superhighway to Zealand right now up to about half-mile past the Zealand summit. Not sure if any other groups made an attempt from the Zealand side. Will have to try again next winter. |
