I brought it all with me; snowshoes, crampons & micro-spikes. Got to the trailhead and the snow was packed down like cement and 4 feet wide. Micro-spikes all the way up & down and it was super firm with a little bit of surface powder higher up but no slipping or postholing. The trail was so easy for a 4000-footer, it felt like cheating! I hike fast but wasn't running and made it up in 59 minutes and down in 43 without poles up or down. It was a cold 10-degree day but the mid-March sun already feels pretty strong. Saw at least a dozen hikers and the summit was so clear it was amazing. This was a day with conditions you wish you could preserve forever. It looks like these conditions will last at least a week longer. Come early and do the Welch-Dickey Loop on your way back to I-93! |
