We had a great sunny day on Cannon with good visibility of Franconia Ridge. HI Cannon trail was relatively hard packed with some postholes. To help maintain the trail, our group wore snowshoes the whole way up. The ladder section was fine - proceed cautiously especially if descending. The whole trail to the summit was broken out. There was a good amount of snow. The snow was soft and it wasn’t too cold. We spent a LONG time chilling at Cafe 4080. We recommend snatching a seat by the fireplace on the leather sofa. Having hiked Cannon several times before, we decided to go for a little adventure and take the ski trails down. The blacks were pretty easy. Views were great. We recommend staying to the side to keep out of the way of skiers and not get hit. The hardest part of the hike seemed to be walking 2+ miles back to our car on the bike / snowmobile path. Look out for the snowmobilers. Overall a great day in the mountains! |
