lincoln woods was hard packed early on and a bit rough so i booted to the osseo trail. i put on snowshoes at osseo as it was softer and only got more so farther up eventually turning into mashed potatoes. non snowshoe use left this trail a bit chewed up. i followed the trail to the ridge line then left the trail towards the summit. snow depths varied from more than a couple feet to a few short stretches with very little coverage. the woods were the pokey/grabby spruce one would expect in this part of the whites, but never thick. a couple nice little ledges views on the way to the recognized highpoint which has open views ranging from flume proper around to the osceolas along with a look straight down into the valley the osseo trail ascends through. notable fresh bear tracks on the way to the summit including one set that appeared to be taking in the view at one of the small cliffs below the summit. i descended in my tracks and followed trails back out to the parking lot using snowshoes the whole way. |
