Comments: We got a 6:30am start, which is late for us. Still, it was early enough to bareboot to both summits without sinking. For those of you who hate wearing snowshoes -- start well before dawn (and always bring the snowshoes)! You can often at least ascend your desired peaks before the trails soften for the day. The trails were firm early in the a.m., with marks of barebooters from the weekend but no postholes outside a small handful that were to the side of the trail -- no biggie, the trail was just fine. We put our snowshoes on at the summit of Middle Tripyramid since we were taking our time (it was 10am when we got to that peak) and we figured the warm spring temps were going to warm the trails before we got back to the car and make barebooting unpleasant. We wore our snowshoes from Middle Tripyramid down (though we passed two fellas on their way up who were not yet wearing their snowshoes, and they weren't postholing at all).

A word of advice for this time of year if you hate wearing snowshoes for whatever reason but don't want to posthole -- start EARLY -- as in, well before dawn. Chances are, you will be fine ascending without snowshoes that way and can then wear the snowshoes on the way down, after the sun comes out and the trails being to soften (always bring your snowshoes!).
