SPECTACULAR perfect blue sky day, 100 mile visibility. snow formations infinitely variable and beautiful and magnificent. west side of Presies totally snow covered with some windblown crust, but much loose dry snow and drifts; no icy areas currently requiring ice ax/crampons. [if not on snowshoes, you'd be doing it the hard way.] above tree line, Gulfside now only lightly tracked. going down railway tracks, relatively easy on S side in middle section; the rest easy. wish we had time to get to W's summit. excellent sunset as we arrived at Marshfield.
Kestrel data: T=24F W=9mph WC= 9F [NB: only wind was on very peak of Jefferson; otherwise in bright sun a fleece shirt and windbreaker were all that was necessary.]
[sunburned faces!] |
