Excellent conditions before the rains came in. Trail was packed with 1/2 inch new snow/ice on top, Made for excellent hiking. Microspikes for the first 1.3 miles, switched to snowshoes (aggressive Tubbs Flex Alp worked very well) at the intersection of Mt. Osceola Trail. 1/4-1/2 inch of new snow and ice on trees made it look like winter. Stayed in snowshoes all the way up and over both East Osceola & Mt. Osceola and back to the beginning of the slide. Switched to Hillsound Trail crampons for the way down the slide and kept them on to the parking lot. Carried regular crampons just in case also. Things started to warm up near the end but finished by 11am before the weather came in. Saw one other person hiking today with his dog. |
