Comments
Comments: Owl's Head trail has a lot of standing water. The beginning will probably be really tough over the next few weeks with water all over. Couple of logging road crossings to pay extra attention at but other than that not hard to follow. Not much more than two inches of new snow most of the way. Martha's mile had some drifts and old postholes from someone coming from Mt. Martha. Short steep part was icy but not bad. Cherry Mountain trail down to Cherry Mountain Road was great as it was packed down from snowmobiles. Nice chat with locals on snowmobiles on my way down to the closed road. Climbed back up from the forest road to the top and went down to 115 on Cherry Mountain trail. This section was hard crust snow full of a set of postholes. Due to the steepness combined with the solid crust it was tough for a bit. The part of the trail closest to 115 only has a few inches of snow left. Snowshoes start to finish although they are not necessary on many sections of these trails. Got halfway through my long roadwalk back to the Owl's head trailhead before getting a lift. Thanks Art!!
