Plenty of primo parking in lot 1 @ WV - I parked a couple dozen paces away from the trailhead. Today is WV's last day open BTW.

The third crossing (in the col) has an ice bridge which may not be there soon. This crossing - as with the first two - can be rock-hopped. |

There's a pretty large widow-maker a short distance after the third crossing which looks like it is caught at the top so I don't think much can be done with it. Evidence of clearing other trees and limbs present so thanks to those responsible for that. |

Trails are well packed and iced - perfect for Microspikes. There are a couple of spots low where there is no cover but these stretches are brief. The Mt. Tecumseh Trail side of the summit loop was moderately post-holed here and there but not terrible. I wore my rock spikes round trip and they served me well.
The predicted snow for this area never materialized - it was more of a light freezing rain all morning gradually ramping up to the heavy side of light as the morning progressed. As such it was a pretty light morning on the trails also: I passed a group of three on the way up and then passed them and 6 others on my way down. By the absence of tracks it looked like I was the first one on top but it was cool, damp and in the clouds so I didn't linger much. Not a fan of the illegal clearing up there anyhow. Back at the car in time for Sunday brunch :)
FWIW: at the summit there doesn't appear to be any recent traffic from the Tripoli Road side...in case you were wondering. |
