| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
No one was using the Lafayette Campground lot; we all parked along the access road off I-93. |
|
| Surface Conditions: |
Snow - Packed Powder/Loose Granular, Snow - Unpacked Powder, Snow/Ice - Monorail (Stable), Snow - Wet/Sticky |
|
| Recommended Equipment: |
Snowshoes, Light Traction |
|
| Water Crossing Notes: |
The wooden bridges are in good shape and the few snow bridges are still up. There may as well have been no water crossings. |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
A few downed trees, nothing we couldn't step over or climb under. |
|
| Dog-Related Notes: |
Saw just the most stunning jet black Great Dane today. His name sounded like "Donut" but wasn't. One of two companions, a much smaller three-legged white dog, was not named "Champion." |
|
| Bugs: |
I clapped a mosquito out of the air on the lower slopes. It begins. |
|
| Lost and Found: |
I found what I think is a whistle on a stretchy band. It's bright orange and looks like a fat guitar pick. |

| Comments: |
There was mashed potato on the lower slopes and unpacked powder on the upper, so slippery much of the way, but with plenty of opportunity for sliding back down. I saw a few people barebooting, though unhappily, on the lower slopes, others doing better in microspikes, but no one on Kinsman Ridge was in anything less than snowshoes. Although it is not likely to last much longer, there was a well-traveled shortcut across the solidly frozen Lonesome Lake, complete with friendly mid-lake snowman. |
