Comments
Comments: An afternoon walk exploring the west side of Dickey Notch. From the bike trail (dry with minor mud) I started my whack to Cone's NE ridge just before the pond about a mile in encountering more or less open woods. Once there I headed SW to Cone's summit (mostly moderate thickness) and was greeted with absolutely stunning views - looks like someone was just there yesterday. Then I went almost due S to Cone Pond (through moderate woods again) which was very cool all covered in ice and snow. Walking around to the east shore for my exit was a bit difficult as the trees were thick and jumbled near the shore but above that were many large boulders. Eventually making the east shore my plan was to go SSE and hit FR411. I crossed one area which - if I used my imagination - could have been a forest road several decades ago, but I didn't take it and finally opted to whack ENE out to Orris Road (mostly moderate and wet in places) completing the circumnavigation of the private property boundary. I found spikes helpful on the final push to Cone's summit due to underlying ice. Patches of snow ascending Cone until I hit the road.

Obviously I didn't see anyone else on this trek - although I did encounter mama bear and two tiny cubs below Cone's summit on ascent. After announcing my presence they went on their way but I waited a while before I did the same. Nice to chat at length with Jim N before the hike :)
