Comments
Comments: The Mt Kinsman Trail had little to no snow to a point just downhill from the first brook crossing at 1.5 miles (~1,800 feet). There was a small stretch of trail in the transition zone with a mix of snow, frozen slush, bare ground, and rocks up to the second brook crossing. The Mt Kinsman Trail was fully snow covered starting around 2,400 feet. The trail from the junction with the Bald Peak spur to Kinsman Ridge was loose slushy snow overtopping a hard base. Butt slides tracks in some of the steeper slopes required more care in the morning when the surface was frozen. The Kinsman Ridge Trail was totally snow covered with one small stretch of blow downs which required ducking or use of by-passes to get by the leaning trees. I was able to hike without wearing the snowshoes as the base was solid. This may not be the case if the warmer conditions persist.

Met Stacy from Vt and two woman from the Lakes region. Great visibility today. The views from the open summit of South Kinsman were spectacular today. There was a lot of melt water, wet snow, and icicles falling from the evergreens today.
