Comments
Comments: My final ascent of a NH4 on the 366 calendar dates; woo hoo! 19 Mile Brook Trail in fine shape, as bare booted up and down. Used snowshoes on Wildcat Ridge Trail (WRT), and followed bare boot post hole tracks straight up to the northwest spur, missing main switchback back east (left). Bushwhack fairly easy with only one thick spot of pencil stick conifers about 0.1 mile north of summit. Found proper WRT on way down. Partially frozen crust on WRT made for tricky side-hilling, even with my MSR Evo shoes; slide crossings were not any scarier than other parts of the switchbacks. Many blazes just above boot level, if not buried. But, rain and warm nighttime temperatures should quickly thin the snowpack moving forward. Met the hut steward and her friend heading up on my way out; they were expecting to have Cata to themselves that night.
